A Remarkable Scrap of Paper

Biblical text from the Gospel of Matthew were found fused to metal in the wreckage at Ground Zero

Back when Pope Francis was visiting New York City last year, including Ground Zero, he was shown an eerie artifact of that horrid event.

As The New York Times reported, during the visit, it was biblical text that had fused to steel during the meltdown. “A firefighter found the fragment in March 2002, under the Tully Road, a temporary truck route that covered the last remnants of the south tower,” reported the newspaper (displaying the picture above). “He called out to the photographer, who happened to be nearby.”

The fused Scripture included a large portion of Matthew Chapter 5 and a tiny sliver of Matthew Chapter 7.

As WorldNetDaily pointed out, “The part showing Chapter 7 contains the very last part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, where he was talking about two types of houses built on different types of foundations – one on rock, the other on sand.”

This needs no explication.

Moreover, the chapter heading, for that chapter, turns out to be, “Retaliation,” a chapter in which Jesus says:

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

Remarkably, both Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa of Calcutta strenuously preached just this, warning the U.S. not to go to war in the Mideast. So did mystics such as Maria Esperanza of Venezuela and Josyp Terelya of Ukraine. The warnings fell on deaf ears. While John Paul II’s loudest opposition to war were after 9/11, Mother Teresa’s admonition had been as the U.S. prepared its first foray into Iraq in 1991 under the first President Bush (over oil, the Persian Gulf War).

So strongly did this new saint feel about the issue that she pressed the letter to Bush against a tabernacle before sending it.

Said a priest who helped her draft the note: “In a strange way, I feel I was given an interior vision of Mother’s heart. She understood the immediate urgency of the present situation, but she also had a dreadful fear, and a premonition about how the Middle East was to unravel over the next 25 years and fall into chaos. I would venture that God was crying over our catastrophic maneuverings in the Middle East and the mayhem we were to cause.”

It was the first Gulf War that incited Osama Bib Laden against the U.S., enraging him because U.S. military boots were in the region of Mecca. That led him, at least in large part, to formulate al-Qaeda’s attacks on the U.S., including 9/11, while the second war — under the second President Bush, in retaliation for 9/11 — led to what Saint Mother Teresa foresaw.

As author Jonathan Cahn (The Harbinger, and most recently The Book of Mysteries) points out, the torn text includes the words, “and it fell,” from Matthew 7:27 (“Now everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”)

“An America that stands on the foundation of God’s Word will withstand that which comes against it, and will not fall,” noted Cahn, who points out that on his inauguration day, George Washington led a prayer for the new nation from a chapel next to what became Ground Zero.

“But an America removed from the Word of God, an America that no longer stands on the foundation on which it was built, will not withstand the forces that come against it, but will collapse, and great will be its fall.”
